Clearing your search history
If you’re concerned about the privacy of your search history on Google, you can clear it using the app or a browser. This may help prevent advertisers from tracking your activity and directing you to ads they think you will like.
To remove your search history from Google, go to your Account settings. You will find the Privacy and Security section. There you can delete all of your past or delete individual items.
Once you’re in the Privacy and Security section, you’ll see the Clear Browsing Data button. Clicking this opens a web page that allows you to select the period you want to delete. Then, you’ll be prompted to confirm your identity.
Next, you’ll need to choose the items you want to remove. The list includes stored logins, cookies, and passwords. These will all be removed as well.
After you’ve cleared the data, you’ll need to restart your browser. That way, the cookies will no longer be automatically filled in.
Delete your activity listings
If you have opted into Google’s Web & App Activity feature, you might already know that you can manually delete some of your search histories. This is a great way to improve privacy without compromising your Google experience. Fortunately, the process is straightforward, and the resulting data will be purged from your account.
For users who like to take matters into their own hands, you can delete your activity manually from “My Activity,” or you can opt to have Google automatically wipe the slate clean. However, the latter is not as convenient and you’ll be forced to wait a day or two before the old data is removed.
As with most things on the Google front, you can expect this feature to roll out over the coming weeks. In the meantime, you can delete the smaller items manually by choosing a time slot and a topic. There’s also a new Clear History button that will clear out the more mundane activities, but if you’re looking for something more granular, you might want to try the automatic option.
Delete your search history from a specific day, a custom date range, or all time
Deleting your search history is a great way to improve your online privacy. However, it does not completely erase all traces of your activity. For example, Google will still store cookies that allow your browser to track your movements. If you’re concerned about your privacy, you should regularly empty your browser’s cache.
If you’re using Chrome, you can delete your search history from the browser. Use the Ctrl+H keyboard shortcut to access the History panel. Then, select the items you want to remove and click Remove.
Similarly, Internet Explorer users can clear their history. Click the History tab. Then, select a specific period or the entire record. Clearing your account will remove the list of websites you’ve visited, logins, and other information stored on your computer.
Safari users can also clear their history. In Safari, right-click on a search item and choose Delete. You will then see a menu with a list of options. Please hover your mouse over the item to delete it. Alternatively, you can press the Enter key to erase it.
Delete your search data from your Google account
If you are concerned about your privacy and want to stop the tracking of your online activities, you can delete your search data from your Google account. However, this does not mean that all traces of your online activity are gone. Some fragments of your data, including a part of your browser cache and download history, can be retrieved.
Google uses your search history to target ads to you. You can control how much of your data is used and what types of searches are saved. In addition, you can prevent websites from collecting your data.
It is also possible to delete your activity on specific services, such as YouTube and Google Play Store. However, you must be logged into your Google Account.
The “My Activity” page in your Google Account gives you an overview of the activity that you’ve had on your device. You can delete search data, location history, and other items.
