How to Install Kali Linux on Windows 10

Kali Linux is a Linux-based operating system specifically designed for ethical hacking. It provides all the tools for penetration testing, security auditing, and digital forensics.

Kali Linux on Windows is possible thanks to the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) compatibility layer, which enables users to run Kali without needing a virtual machine.

1. Download the Kali Linux ISO

If you want to use Kali Linux on a Windows PC, all that’s required is downloading the Kali Linux ISO file and creating a bootable USB drive. This straightforward process will give you an operational Kali Linux operating system that can be used with your PC.

Kali Linux ISOs can be downloaded from the website for 32-bit and 64-bit architectures.

Next, you’ll need to create a partition on your hard drive or another disk for Kali Linux to install into. This can be accomplished by taking advantage of any free space in the industry.

After setting up GRUB as your boot loader, you can select which operating system should boot from each time your computer boots up.

Once GRUB is installed, restart your computer, and it should boot into Kali Linux. You can begin installing tools and exploring the Kali Linux environment from here.

2. Create a bootable USB drive

Bootable USB drives are an invaluable tool that lets you quickly and easily install various operating systems on your computer when its BIOS settings are loaded. They typically consist of writing the desired software’s ISO (bootable) file onto a USB using programs like UltraISO or LiLi, among others.

To create a bootable Kali Linux USB, you’ll first need to download an ISO image of the latest build of the Kali Linux system that you wish to run. You can do this either using command-line dd or Etcher.

Next, format your flash drive to write the Kali Linux image onto it. This may take a few minutes, depending on the size and content of your campaign.

Once your flash drive has been formatted, you can install Kali Linux on your Windows 10 PC. To do so, disable secure boot on the machine.

3. Install Kali Linux

Kali Linux is an ethical hacker’s dream operating system, featuring all the tools necessary for digital forensics and penetration testing. From Metasploit and JohntheRipper to Aircrack-ng, it includes everything needed for successful investigations.

Installing Kali Linux on Windows 10 is now possible thanks to the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL). This feature enables Windows users to use native Linux command lines and other tools previously only available in Linux.

First, download Kali Linux ISO and create a bootable USB drive using the Rufus tool.

Next, you must shrink the size of your Windows partition, so there is space for Kali Linux installation. To do this, launch EasyBCD and open the Linux/BSD tab.

Select GRUB2 as the boot loader and make the new free space a separate disk partition. After that, you can continue installing Kali Linux; depending on how big your hard drive is, this may take some time, depending on its speed.

4. Boot Kali Linux

Kali Linux is an ideal Linux distribution for ethical hacking and security testing. It’s simple to install on Windows 10 and has various tools and packages that can help safeguard your computer and network.

Once you’ve created a bootable USB drive, it’s time to boot up your computer and install Kali Linux. To do so, access your BIOS or boot menu via BIOS settings.

If your computer has a dual boot system, you can set the Kali Linux installation as the initial boot option in your BIOS. This will ensure that when restarting the machine, it boots into Kali Linux without any GRUB bootloader errors.

Next, you’ll want to resize the partition on your hard drive, so there is room for both Kali and Windows. This can be done using GParted, so having this program ready before beginning, this process is recommended.
