Ramapo High School Baseball Coaches

Coach Gibbs had an impactful presence across every Ramapo athletic team he invested in – from football and wrestling to cross country. His legacy will live on for many years to come.

Two high school coaches in Bergen County were suspended without explanation this month, prompting an uproar at a Board of Education meeting Monday night.

Sean DiMauro

Ramapo High School provides its students with a well-rounded education. Academic programs emphasize critical thinking and communication skills, which prepare graduates for success in various fields. Furthermore, Ramapo has a strong focus on student achievement and social awareness. Ramapo Raiders found time for celebration after beating No. 4 Montville 3-2 in Friday night’s North 1, Group 3 state sectional final at Franklin Lakes. A close game that came down to its last pitch, with Niko Logothetis being caught by Christian Cavagnaro, was thrilling for both sides involved and will surely go down in team history as one of their finest moments ever.

This year’s season has been one of the most thrilling and competitive in recent history. The Raiders entered their tournament with a 10-2 record and are hoping to capture their first section title since 2005. Their season started well by defeating Pascack Valley by three goals before winning two more contests over Bergen County and Northern Valley/Demarest to top out with a victory for themselves.

Sean DiMauro graduated from Ramapo High School in 2002 and has been teaching chemistry in his former district ever since. Certified to teach all levels of chemistry, Sean served in the US Marine Corps prior to becoming an educator, as well as competing collegiately in football, wrestling, and track & field.

Niko Logothetis

Niko Logothetis may admire the pitching styles of New York Yankees greats like Mariano Rivera and Nestor Cortes Jr., but his pitching style has proven successful for the Ramapo High School baseball team. After defeating Montville 3-2 on Friday in North 1 Group 3 State Sectional action, Ramapo High School became 2022 North 1, Group 3 State Sectional Champions under Logothetis’ leadership – highlighted by players like Connor Saslow, Michael Whooley, Payne Teel Teel Teel Jack Klein and Jake Lopez all providing stellar contributions Connor Saslow has also shown his pitching prowess as they have delivered shutout performances against non-public, top-ranked Don Bosco Prep in addition to three-hit gem performances during county tournament quarterfinal wins over Pascack Valley atop-ranked non-public top-ranked Don Bosco Prep!

This game featured an intense pitching duel between two of the finest arms in the state. Montville junior lefty Ian Kaiser, a former Bergen County champion himself, went all-out in the opener without showing any fear for such an occasion or challenge; indeed, he seemed to embrace it and go all-out!

While playing on even terms in the bottom of the third inning, the Raiders finally managed to break through. Connor Saslow reached on an error before Jack Klein hit an infield single before Teel hit a bases-loaded double that brought Saslow home while also scoring Klein from third base.

This was an emotional, heated game. Each dugout was packed, while fans lined the fences all the way down to the third base side. On more than one occasion, the home plate umpire had to intervene and calm things down in both dugouts as tensions escalated; nonetheless, it was genuinely outstanding baseball action!

Joe Del Buono

Joe Del Buono has spent 40 years coaching high school scholastic sports, and it would be impossible to fully capture all the highlights, friendships, and life lessons he’s imparted in one conversation or even several paragraphs. He owes much gratitude to previous assistant coaches such as Bob Brown, Don McLaughlin, and Dan Van Der Molen and current sidekicks Mickey Hunt and Ryan Psirari (a 2002 Ramapo graduate who now coaches Highlanders). To name but a few.

There’s also his time spent coaching young athletes he still regularly keeps in contact with, some of whom may look back fondly upon their high school careers and educational experiences he hopes they hold dearest memories of. This makes up part of what makes coaching unique to him.
